Visions of Nineteen Seventies Los Angeles
With a little bit of nostalgia in thoughts, I lately examined the profession of architectural critic Reyner Banham, an Englishman whose love for Los Angeles oddly knew no bounds. I’m making ready an extended piece that may bridge his historic assessments of town with a few of the harsher realities of our period. Certainly, Banham’s oeuvre on the topic shaped a fancy imaginative and prescient, a panoptical gaze that moved throughout the pond and landed on our shores way back, throughout an easier time. From architectural criticism and private expertise to memoir and historic scholarship, his evaluation of Los Angeles was many-sided, albeit a bit too enthusiastic at instances.
In the intervening time, I’m ending a big writing challenge and making ready for a brand new journey season, which can seemingly take me (and the canine) via Northern Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado for the summer season. I look ahead to sharing the journey with you!
I thanks to your persistence and your readership. New work can be forthcoming!
Cheers and welcome to all of my new subscribers!
