What do you get once you combine highschool romance with underworld crime?
Effectively, no matter you’re pondering, I don’t suppose Honeko Akabane’s Bodyguards involves thoughts. What we get is a romantic comedy with a lot twists and intrigue, I grew to become instantly invested.
Highschool delinquent Arakuni Ibuki and studious overachiever Honeko Akabane have been mates since childhood. They know all the things about one another, flaws and all.
Effectively, virtually all the things, however I’ll get to that later.
The way in which they name one another out (who’re we kidding, they argue CONSTANTLY), everybody thinks they’re a pair (foreshadowing). In fact, they deny it however the hidden emotions are there.
SCROLL TO KEEP READING THIS POST
Ibuki finds himself recruited by the yakuza boss of the Jingu gang to guard his secret daughter – Honeko! Honeko has no clue about her beginning household and the upcoming doom his father’s enemies have deliberate for her. Ibuki agrees to guard Honeko and finds himself combating murderer after murderer whereas attempting to maintain his secret from Honeko. However Ibuki discovers that he’s not alone in defending Honeko. When he finds himself outnumbered by assassins concentrating on Honeko, Ibuki learns he’s the newest recruit of an elite group assigned to Honeko… and so they’re his classmates of Class 3-4.
Sure, your complete class!
…what?!
This story was so insane, I needed to pause to snicker at each single absurd second Ibuki finds himself in. The artwork is splendidly chaotic together with the plot. Honeko is oblivious that her whole class has been defending her, together with Ibuki. At the same time as Honeko tries to arrange a examine outing with Ibuki, and it’s completely not a date (it’s), she doesn’t have a single clue concerning the violence round her. Assassins and Bodyguards are actually in all places, and Ibuki makes positive she’s away from it. However the hazard nonetheless lingers when one other challenger comes into the scene, who claims to be the rightful inheritor to the Jingu gang, and with the invention of a potential mole inside Class 3-4, the chaos escalates into one thing that goes utterly left area.
And that is simply quantity two!
I’M INVESTED!
And I learn this on Valentine’s Day! If anybody needs to attempt a rom-com that’s in contrast to another, undoubtedly give Honeko Akabane’s Bodyguards an opportunity. Only a warning, there’s some temporary nudity in the direction of the top of the manga. Why… Effectively, not all the things needs to be spoiled.
However if you want a spoiler, learn this hilariously chaotic manga or take a look at its live-action adaptation that got here out in 2024.
